Ingredients

Chex cereal (rice or corn)
  • 9 cup Chex cereal (rice or corn)
White chocolate
  • 12 oz white chocolate chips or white melting wafers
Unsalted butter
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
Powdered sugar
  • 2 cup powdered sugar
Red M&Ms
  • 1 cup red M&Ms
Blue M&Ms
  • 1 cup blue M&Ms
Star sprinkles
  • 1 Red and blue star sprinkles

Equipment

  • 1 sheet pan
  • 1 microwave-safe bowl

Method

Coat the Chex
  1. Measure 9 cups Chex cereal into a very large bowl and set aside.
  2. Melt 12 oz white chocolate chips or white melting wafers with 4 tbsp unsalted butter together in a microwave-safe bowl using 30-second intervals, stirring until completely smooth.
  3. Pour the melted white chocolate over the Chex and stir gently until every piece is evenly coated.
Powder and set
  1. Transfer the coated cereal into a large zip-lock bag, add 2 cups powdered sugar, seal, and shake vigorously until all pieces are well coated.
  2. Spread the puppy chow onto a parchment-lined sheet pan and let cool for 30 minutes until set.
Finish and serve
  1. Transfer the set cereal to a large bowl and toss with 1 cup red M&Ms, then add 1 cup blue M&Ms and toss again so the colors are evenly distributed.
  2. Toss in Red and blue star sprinkles and serve in a big bowl or portion into individual bags.

Notes

Pro tip: pour melted white chocolate slowly and stir gently to avoid breaking the Chex into tiny bits. Store covered at room temperature for up to 3 days; for best texture, add M&Ms and sprinkles right before serving if you can. Freezing is not recommended because the sugar coating can soften after thawing. For a lighter option, use sugar-free powdered sugar and sugar-free white chocolate chips if you want a reduced-sugar swap.
